EBRD Invests €10M in Movens Fund 2 to Boost Venture Capital Across CEE

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has committed €10 million to Movens Fund 2, a multi-stage venture capital fund managed by Movens Capital, designed to support technology-driven startups in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). The investment aims to strengthen early-stage and growth-stage financing ecosystems across the region, backing founders in sectors such as enterprise software, AI, climate tech, fintech, healthcare, e-commerce infrastructure and future-of-work technologies. Movens Fund 2 will look to make approximately 30 investments, with a focus on companies at pre-seed, seed and Series A+ stages, especially in Poland and additional CEE markets. The fund builds on the success of Movens Fund 1, whose portfolio companies went on to raise more than eight times the original capital in follow-on funding, and reflects the EBRD’s broader commitment to expanding venture capital financing as a vital alternative to traditional funding sources in emerging innovation ecosystems. The EBRD’s support for Movens Fund 2 is part of its Early-Stage Innovation Facility II (ESIF II), a programme aimed at deepening venture capital markets and enabling innovative companies to scale, driving economic transformation and competitiveness across the CEE region.
